Conservaçion Patagonica / Fun November 26, 2015January 25, 2016 by reece In Places, Thoughts 1 Comment This is post four of four on our volunteer experience with Conservaçion Patagonica. Week #1 in the Mountains Week #2 in the Valley A final day on the Farm Fun around the park Camping in Park Headquarters. This is the one place where you can get wifi in the park. Yes, it’s under a willow tree. Group hike to Lago Guttierez, deep in the park. Guanaco! For perspective, I’m that little yellow speck in the bottom right. Enjoying the view. Moving mountains. Guanaco skull. After a couple weeks without swimming, and days of hard labor, I was in desperate need of a dip. So desperate, that glacially cold water didn’t stop me. Frigid. Team! Thanks to all who played along as I directed them into position for this shot. One of my favorite shots from Patagonia. Why the long face? Passing maté around with Daniel, the gaucho (center), at his remote home. Lots of laughs on our day off with Daniel. Daniel making some fresh ‘tortas fritas.’ Old school wood stove. Tortas fritas frying. Air, thick with the smell of sheep fat. Daniel formerly worked with livestock, now tracks the endangered huemul deer. Annie descending Lagos Altos. Because hiking 1400m up, and 16 miles total is what one does on their day off in Patagonia. Beautiful view from atop Lagos Altos (that means high lakes.. geddit?). Annie, hanging on. Another cold water, high altitude lake dip. This time, Annie joined. That view though. We were up there just a few hours previously. Long hike. Tired legs. Happy hearts. The endangered huemul deer.
